Wave Properties
Waves are a way for energy or information to travel in the form of vibrations. We'll begin with some definitions
Longitudinal and Transverse Waves
A Transverse Wave is a wave whose oscillations or vibrations are perpendicular to the direction of propagation (travel) of information or energy.
Examples are: the electromagnetic spectrum, water waves, a mexican wave, S-seismic waves |
A Longitudinal Wave is a wave whose oscillations or vibrations are parallel to the direction of propagation (travel) of information or energy.
Examples are: sound, P-seismic waves |
