If two waves overlap they can interfere with each other. This means that their amplitudes will add together to create a new resultant wave.
If you set up two speakers playing the same sound, then the waves from the two sources will interfere with each other and you should get patches around the room of louder and quieter sounds.
We can see this in the picture on the right. The darker patches will have the louder sounds.
